Recreation

The countryside around Darazac is an area of great natural beauty and much attractive wildlife, perfect for walking, horse riding, cycling, canoeing, fishing, swimming, sailing, skiing or just relaxing.

Walking & Sight seeing

The famous, spectacular ruins of the Tours de Merle are nearby as well as Rocamadour, Lascaux caves etc. - all well worth a visit. Further away, there is easy access by car both up to the mountains of the Auvergne and down to the verdant plains of the Dordogne.

Argentat, on the river Dordogne, is the nearest town and both mediaeval towns (Beaulieu, Salers) and lively cities (Brive, with motorail, motorway) are close by. Beyond Bive there are the monuments and Chateau de Losse,

Horseriding

If you would like to go horse riding then enquire at the tourist offices in either St Privat or Argentat and they can advise of what is currently available. See Local Towns page for details of the towns.

Canoeing

Along the Dordogne river from Argentat there are numerous canoeing establishments where canoes can be hired. Many establishments will rent you the canoe and arrange to collect you and the canoe downstream and bring you back to the start point so you do not have to paddle upstream.

Trips of differing lengths (so thus durations) are available.

Fishing

The rules for fishing in France are unlike those in Britain. Open seasons vary from one department to another, from one river to another and even sometimes on different stretches of the same river. However it is possible to purchase a yearly licence or a tourist licence that covers a much shorter period. You can buy a fishing licence form the hunting/fishing shop in the main street in Argentat. But you may also, in addition, need a permit from a local club to fish a particular water.

Fishing permits and advice are available form the hunting/fishing shop on the main street in Argentat. To fish the lake in St Privat you need the normal French tourist licence and a day permit from the Xiantre Fishing Club and this can be purchased from the newsagent on the main street in St Privat.

Lakes

The nearby Lac de Feyt provides some 65 hectares of water together with a cafe. There are other lakes, large and small, further away with Marcillac-la-Croisille on the other side of the Dordogne being popular for boating, swimming and fishing.

Skiing and Mountain Biking

Depending on the season skiing and mountain biking is available at the resort of Le Lioran located in the park of the volcanoes in the Auvergne. Tell me more.
